Break in wild weather for NSW - The Daily Telegraph
THE NSW coastline has withstood its eighth straight day of rough weather as experts say the state will be spared more severe storms until Thursday.
THE State Emergency Service has dealt with 1200 calls for help over the past 24 hours and brought in extra crews from around NSW to Sydney after rain, wind and hail brought down trees in Penrith and Hornsby on Sunday.
Seven campers, including two children aged two and nine, had to be rescued by helicopter from rising floodwaters on the NSW south coast on Monday.
"A real feature we have seen in these storms is a lot more hail and water," an SES spokesperson told AAP.
The Bureau of Meteorology says there is still potential for severe thunderstorms, large hailstones and damaging winds in Lismore, Grafton, Maclean, Taree, Cessnock and Maitland on Monday night.
BOM NSW manager Andrew Treloar said Sydney will likely be given a break from the wild weather until Thursday.
"Conditions are going to be a lot more pleasant tomorrow, with temperatures going down to 25 degrees," he said.
A band of rain is expected to return to the east coast of the state on Thursday.
Emergency crews are already working to clean up Sunday's round of storms, when wind and rain brought down trees and cut power to more than 10,000 homes.
