Hunter weather: SES gets interstate help to cope with backlog - Newcastle Herald
FIFTY emergency workers from Queensland will arrive in the Hunter on Thursday assist with the growing backlog of requests for assistance.
Crews are focusing their efforts on the assisting stranded communities in Hinton, Gillieston Heights Wallalong and Laguna.
The Hunter State Emergency Services office had received 4645 calls for assistance and had completed just over 2000 by 9.30am on Thursday.
‘‘They just keep coming in,’’ SES media spokeswoman Amanda Hyde said.
‘‘We are still seeing a lot of jobs coming in from around Lake Macquarie and Newcastle. Most of the jobs are for large trees that have fallen down.’’
Almost 250 emergency workers from across the state are now in the Hunter.
‘‘We will be rotating them on the continuing roster for the next few days to avoid burn-out,’’ Ms Hyde said.
