It never rains but it pours:no end to storms - The Australian
by Marie Hogg | April 27, 2015
The week of storms that have battered NSW, culminating in a severe hailstorm in Sydney on Saturday afternoon, is expected to be the worst event in the 60-year history of the state’s emergency services.
SES Deputy Commissioner Steven Pearce said he expected the wild weather to represent “the largest event in the SES NSW history”, measured by the number of calls made to his staff.
By last night, largely due to the damage wrought by the hailstorm that blanketed the city in ice, the total number of calls had exceeded 19,100, surpassing the 1999 Sydney hailstorms and the 2007 Hunter region floods.
“Those events, they were over three weeks — we’ve amassed more calls in under one week,” Mr Pearce said.
