Kayakers standed - The Northern Star

by | December 31, 2014

POLICE, SES and the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter responded to an emergency beacon activated by two kayakers in a remote area of the Clarence River south of Tabulam yesterday afternoon.

The two kayakers were located and were out of the water, waiting on opposite banks of the river at 5.30pm.

Emergency services accessed one kayaker immediately, but the remaining kayaker was located on western side of Clarence river and unable to be accessed.

A local State Emergency Services flood boat crew was requested to assist with access of second kayaker, however, due to the swift water movement of the Clarence river the Rescue Helicopter was re-tasked to extract the second kayak paddler from the western side of the Clarence River.
