Newcastle weather: Storm hits the Hunter - Newcastle Herald
CESSNOCK experienced the full gamut of wild weather within a few hours on Monday with a bushfire ripping through nearly 90 hectares scrub and a ‘‘mini-cyclone’’ tearing down trees and power lines across roads and on top of cars and houses.
The thunderstorm was so powerful that 98km/h gusts of wind ripped the door of a Jetstar hangar at Williamtown Airport. The storm rolled through from the west in the afternoon, striking the Hunter about 4pm.
A State Emergency Services spokeswoman said Cessnock was the worst hit area, with crews called to 20 jobs involving downed trees and power lines around Mount View Road.
The spokeswoman said other jobs around Cessnock included a trampoline onto a roof and more trees down in a Cessnock caravan park and Mount View Public School.
