Nowra SES triumphs in Navshield, honouring fallen comrade - South Coast Register
THE Nowra SES Team 1 kept with tradition on Sunday when it won the SES category of the annual Navshield competition held in the Yengo National Park in the Hunter Valley on the weekend.
Participants got to test their bush and compass navigation abilities in an overnight event through 100 square kms of wilderness terrain.
Nowra SES Team 1 (Scott Wells, Brad Davis, Luke Vidaic and Darren Colqhoun) continued the tradition of successful Nowra SES teams by winning the SES category of the event for the 15th consecutive year, beating all other emergency service teams to win the overall event, bringing the top Navshield award back home to the Shoalhaven for the first time since 2013.
Nowra SES Team 2 (Gordon McKeown, Walter Deruyter, Nick Deruyter, Dave Jones, and Rhiannon James) also performed well, being ranked sixth overall (second in the SES service category).
Following the passing of SES Nowra Wilderness Group Team Leader Cliff Harris in July 2014, the Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad this year unveiled the inaugural Cliff Harris Memorial trophy for the best performing SES team in Navshield, won by Nowra SES.
