NSW SES welcomes new Deputy commissioner Greg Newton

by | May 29, 2015

NSW SES Commissioner Adam Dent today announced the appointment of Mr Greg Newton as the new Deputy Commissioner of the NSW State Emergency Service.

Mr Newton was previously in the role of Assistant Commissioner Director Regions West which provided him with valuable insights into the diversity of issues and solutions confronting NSW SES members.

Commissioner Dent offered his congratulations saying,

‘Greg has the unique combination of on-ground volunteer and operational experience combined with a management and government background. I am looking forward to working with him as we grow and strengthen NSW SES into the future,’

Prior to Mr Newton joining the NSW SES as a staff member in 2010 he accumulated 23 years of experience as an SES volunteer, including 5 years as a Local Controller with Queanbeyan Unit. He has participated in major operations including the Thredbo Landslide, Canberra Bushfires and 2007 Hunter Storm operation. Mr Newton was also one of a limited number of NSW SES volunteers deployed to Victoria to assist in the wake of the 2009 bushfires.

Mr Newton has previously worked at a senior level in the ACT Department of Justice and Community Safety and with the Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department.  In both agencies his work was centred on emergency management, security and counter terrorism arrangements.
