Over 30 years service and still going strong - NSW SES

by | July 9, 2015

In an environment of instant gratification, likes, tweets and other forms of social acceptance, commitment and dedication to a single organisation is becoming increasing rare.

A recent presentation at the Macquarie Region Headquarters of the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) saw over 70 years of commitment to communities of NSW, and in particular Dubbo, recognised.

NSW SES is the agency communities turn to during all types of natural disasters, in particular Floods & Storms, and it is the professionalism and dedication of volunteers that ensure the needs of communities are attended to. On Tuesday night awards were presented to Susan Finlay for 15 years Long Service, as well as the coveted National Medal, while Nancy Pemble received the NSW SES Long Service Award for 10 years ethical and diligent service and Michelle Lyons received recognition for 5 years’ service to the NSW SES.

David Monk, Macquarie Region Controller, NSW SES presented the awards, saying “It’s a real pleasure to present long service awards recognising the significant contributions volunteers have made not only to the SES, but also to their local communities. SES volunteers are called upon at all hours of the day and night, often in the worst of conditions to assist communities.”

“The volunteers recognised tonight have demonstrated a level of commitment, dedication and professionalism, providing a blanket of safety for the local community. Whether it is a storm, a flood, or providing assistance to other emergency services, SES volunteers are out there giving their best. These awards and tonight’s presentation is the least we can do to recognise that service”
