Recognition for volunteers - Junee Southern Cross

by | October 9, 2013

THE town’s long-serving State Emergency Service (SES) members have been helping out Junee and surrounding districts in times of great need.

From fire to flood, they have seen it all.

And this week their dedication, volunteering and hard work in those tough times were recognised at a special presentation of medals, pins and certificates.

Last Wednesday, NSW SES assistant commissioner Mark Morrow travelled to Junee for the presentation.

Junee SES team leader Brett Porter received a five- year long service certificate and pin, along with a National Medal for 15 years of long service.

Deputy team leader Michael Anschaw received a five-year long service certificate and pin and a 10-year long service certificate and medal while local controller Michael Webb was given a five-year long service award and pin.

Mr Webb said while it was pleasing to be acknowledged himself, it was great to see two members integral to the Junee SES recognised.

“They are hard workers, dedicated to their jobs and you can’t beat their experience,” he said.

Over the last few years alone the crew has faced two local floods as well as call outs for assistance to other areas, including Sydney and Tumut.

The Junee SES welcomes new volunteers wishing to gain new skills and help out the community.

Mr Webb said people who are interested were welcome to drop by the Junee SES shed any Wednesday from 6.30pm.

Information will be available about joining with members on hand to answer any questions.
