SES crews on alert as wet Weather hits - Coffs Coast Advocate

by | April 30, 2015

HAVING already worked themselves to a standstill in a flooded Hunter Valley, local SES crews are preparing for another busy period.

The North Coast of NSW is expected to receive the heaviest rain as the result of a possible east coast low forming off the coast, with a flood watch in place for coastal valleys from the NSW-Queensland border to Nelson Bay.

With this in mind, SES crew members have been preparing sand bags at Brelsford Park in case of any flooding.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has also issued a severe thunderstorm warning for areas including Lismore, Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Taree and Dorrigo.

Seventy-five millimetres of rain was recorded in the hour to 8:55am at the Wooli River Caravan Park, south-east of Grafton.

The BoM said there was a 70 per cent chance of flooding in 12 river catchments tomorrow and on Saturday.

It said moderate to major flooding was likely in the Tweed River, Brunswick River, Richmond and Wilsons River, Clarence River valley, Coffs Harbour, Bellinger and Kalang River and Nambucca River valleys.

More than 350mm of rain could fall in some areas between last night and Saturday.
