Storms and rough seas claim five lives - The Sunday Telegraph

A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy died after being swept into rough seas in northern NSW as large parts of the state copped yet another battering from wild weather.

The storm front which lashed Queensland on Friday, leaving five people dead, ­including a mother and her five-year-old son, moved south yesterday, prompting flood warnings for the mid-north coast and a flood watch warning for the rest of NSW.

The boy was swimming with family in shallow water near a rock wall at the unpatrolled South Ballina beach yesterday afternoon when his older brother got into trouble and his father swam to help.
