Sunday Morning Update and Thanks - NSW SES

by | April 26, 2015

NSW SES has received over 18,600 requests for assistance since last Monday making this response one of the most significant in the history of the service. With such a large number of calls and tasks, the NSW SES appreciate the patience affected communities have shown. We have heard amazing feedback and support from communities across the Hunter and Sydney as NSW SES aim to complete these remaining jobs over the next few days. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

70% of the 18,600 tasks have been completed by NSW SES volunteers and support crews from Victoria SES, ACT SES, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, Volunteer Rescue Association, other NSW emergency services including NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW. We are currently conducting call backs to most of these remaining tasks and asking if these jobs are still required. We are also asking people who have calls logged with NSW SES to call us back on 132 500 if you no longer require assistance or if you haven't heard from us - please quote the job number, so that we can finalise these outstanding tasks as a priority.

We remind people that the NSW SES is an emergency service and our role is to make safe and secure any damage caused by storms and floods. If there is no risk to people or property, please call us to cancel. Also, if contractors have completed the job, please call us with the task number and let us know.

We appreciate your patience during this time and continue to have volunteer teams and support teams in the field today who are working through as many of the remaining tasks as possible. Thank you for the incredible feedback during this period where so many have been impacted.

There has also been some amazing resilience and community responses to this unprecedented weather, with neighbours, streets, communities, friends and family rallying to assist those in need. Please share these community response stories and how we are supporting each other with us on our Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/NSW.SES
