Uniforms 4 Kids: A Heartfelt Initiative Supporting Children in Need
Uniforms 4 Kids is an inspiring, world-first community initiative that transforms donated uniforms from law enforcement and emergency services into beautiful, carefully crafted clothing and accessories for children in need. Each item is created with care, helping to spread a message of hope and support to those who need it most.
Recently, the NSW SES Bankstown Unit launched a dedicated sewing group within its ranks. A team of SES volunteers has come together, using repurposed uniforms to create bags, pencil cases, and other essentials for children as part of the Uniforms 4 Kids project. On Thursday, November 7th, Acting Commissioner Debbie Platz joined the volunteers for an evening of shared stories, laughter, and plenty of dedicated unpicking and sewing. This initiative truly embodies the spirit of volunteering, showcasing the compassion and dedication of those who consistently go above and beyond to serve their communities.
We were honored to welcome Acting Commissioner Platz to our office earlier this month, where she presented us with beautifully handmade towels and evacuation bags created through Uniforms 4 Kids. These thoughtful items, crafted with skill and generosity, have also been included in our Christmas welfare hampers, which are now being distributed to members facing challenging times.
The VA team would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to all the Uniforms 4 Kids volunteers, particularly those from the NSW SES Bankstown Unit and Acting Commissioner Platz, for their dedication to making a difference. This Christmas, thanks to their selfless efforts, many families and children will receive items created with care and compassion. Thank you for making such a meaningful impact in the lives of those who need it most.
