A man who went missing from his Upper Hunter property while searching for a pony has been found safe and well.

Bob Baihn, 72, went searching for the missing animal on his property on Flaggs Road at Gungal on Sunday afternoon.

When he did not return to the farm house, Mr Baihn's wife and neighbour started searching for him and then called police.

He has a medical condition that requires regular medication.

Police, with the assistance of State Emergency Service (SES) officers, dog squad, police divers, the marine area command, and PolAir conducted an extensive search of the area last night and again this morning.

About 11.15am (AEST) today, Mr Baihn was located at a nearby property, safe and well.

Police have thanked the media, SES officers, and the public for their help.
