Volunteers give up sleep to save lives this festive season - The Advocate

A FARMER, an ambulance builder and a self-employed relief council inspector are among the diverse range of state emergency services volunteers.

They are people with day jobs who get emergency calls in the middle of the night to respond to.

Central Coast SES Unit volunteers Wayne McKenna, a farmer, and his deputy unit manager Kurt Carey, working for Mader International, said they would prefer not to be called out over Christmas because that meant someone needed help.
