Young NSW SES Volunteers sail on an Endeavour Adventure

by | March 8, 2016

NSW SES volunteers have secured a once in a lifetime opportunity to embark on the trip of a lifetime as part of the Young Endeavour Youth Development Program.

Sophie Attwater from Grafton, Charlotte Morrison from Ballina and Clancy Simpson from Hornsby will represent the NSW SES alongside 21 other young people from all over Australia for a spectacular 10 day adventure sailing along the NSW South Coast.

The trip of a lifetime is sponsored by the NSW SES Volunteers Association, the NSW SES and their Community Partner Origin. The three volunteers were selected for their demonstrated leadership qualities and commitment to the Service, this experience is another opportunity to further develop their skills in a different way.

“By participating in this program I feel I will be able to assist the Clarence Nambucca Youth Scheme by offering what I have learnt about teamwork and Mentoring” Sophie stated.

“I am looking forward to the challenges of learning the skills required to sail the Young Endeavour, testing my mental and physical strengths and engage with the other crew members to develop a strong team connection” Clancy said.

“Taking part in the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme is a once in a life time opportunity for myself. Charlotte said. “I joined the Ballina SES unit in 2013 to learn new skills and as a way to help my community.”

The NSW SES Volunteers Association President Charlie Moir said he’s proud to support the future leaders of the SES through this opportunity, and recognise their service to the community.

“This is the fifth year we’ve sponsored young volunteers on the Young Endeavour and this is only made possible through the support we receive from community donations” Mr. Moir said. The NSW SESVA also assist with grants and scholarships to the volunteers each year.

Gretchen Fox, General Manager, Marketing said this is Origin Energy’s second year of supporting local volunteers via this initiative.  Origin provides support to the NSW SES Youth Engagement Program that includes the NSW SES Cadets School program.

"Through our partnership with the NSW SES, we are committed to supporting the invaluable work of the volunteers. We recognise what a hugely positive difference the NSW SES makes, and we’re thrilled to be able to support these young volunteers to improve their leadership skills and self-confidence” said Ms Fox.

The NSW SES Volunteers will set sail with the Young Endeavour in late March 2016.
