Accidents closes lane of highway - Western Advocate

by By Michelle Allen | July 28, 2014

LONG weekend traffic on the Great Western Highway came to a standstill late yesterday afternoon after a single car accident near Glanmire.

Police, paramedics and SES crews rushed to the scene just after 5.30pm when a west-bound black Nissan Navara is believed to have crossed to the wrong side of the road and rolled, crashing through a fence before landing on its side.

The three lanes of highway traffic were merged into two for more than two hours as police and SES personnel directed vehicles past the crash scene.

At the scene one man and three children were reviewed for minor injuries, while paramedics worked at length on a female victim.

The woman was stabilised, with spinal boards in place, before being lifted into a waiting ambulance. She was then taken to Orange Base Hospital for treatment.

The Nissan was 10.5 kilometres out from Bathurst and had just passed the Glanmire turn-off when it is believed the accident occurred.

Police are investigating.
