The body of a man was found in the Murray River early yesterday.

It was believed the body was that of missing 18-year-old Sayeed Asef Kazemi, who went missing in the river at Apex Park about 6pm on Tuesday.

NSW Police said the body, which was located at 10.20am, was yet to be formally identified.

They said an autopsy would be performed.

Mr Kazemi had been swimming with friends at the Apex Park beach.

The young man got into trouble near the middle of the river.

A friend tried to help, but he also began to struggle and was forced to make his way back to the bank.

Several people then entered the river to help locate the missing man, without success.

SES and Police search teams began looking for the man on Tuesday evening.

NSW Police divers were called in from Sydney to help in the search, arriving at the scene shortly before 6pm on Wednesday.

Mr Kazemi, who was preparing to celebrate his 19th birthday this month, was pictured by a friend swimming in the river just moments before he disappeared.
