MILDURA State Emergency Services controller Michael Hellwege predicts renovations to the organisation’s home base will be completed before the end of January.

BlueScope Steel Buronga has donated $3818 to the service in a bid to help the SES achieve that goal.

Branch manager Brad Thomas said BlueScope ran a national promotion from April to September, with a proportion of each sale going back to local communities.

“With recent events, including floods and fires, we felt the SES were a worthy organisation to give back to,” Mr Thomas said.

“Although we are a global company, we think local.

“We are part of the community and we pride ourselves on that.”

Mr Thomas said the major prize from the promotion was a ute, which was won by a Portland resident.
