Home lost in Blue Mountains: winds whip up bushfire - The Australian

by | November 1, 2014

11.03PM (AEDT): Conditions have eased for the Blue Mountains fire at Cliff Drive near Katoomba after one house was lost and others reportedly damaged. The NSW Rural Fire Service says the alert level for this fire has been reduced to “advice”. The fire is suspected of having been deliberately lit.

The RFS earlier said two homes were destroyed by the blaze, before clarifying that it was only one property.

About 100 people had sought refuge at the Katoomba RSL at the height of the fire threat but late tonight were able to return home.

The weather is expected to be more favourable for firefighters tomorrow, with Sydney region temperatures in the low 20s and winds at 15-25 kilometres an hour.
