Illawarra and South Coast Weather Update - NSW SES

The NSW SES has now received over 144 emergency calls for help since 10pm last night this brings the overall total to 649 calls for this event. The Wollongong, Northern Suburbs to Bulli were impacted by heavy rain between 10:15pm and 2:30am with reports of up to 232mm of rainfall in Bulli, this resulted in an additional 2 Flood Rescues taking the total to 25 Flood Rescues for this event. Majority of the jobs were for leaking roof and flash flooding.

At the moment we have reports of water damage (leaking roof) at Kiama hospital as well as a flooding at Bulli High School. Extent of damage is yet to be confirmed. Trains have been suspended between Dapto and Dunmore due to wash away of track at Oak Flats. Buses will replace this service.

A severe weather warning for Illawarra and South Coast for heavy rain has been issued at 4:43am today. The Illawarra may receive heavy rain and thunderstorms that can lead to flash flooding. Conditions are contracting to the South Coast and expected to ease later today. 

The NSW SES continues to attend to calls for assistance and has experienced a steady number of calls for emergency help as people have come home and discovered damage.
