Illawarra SES Volunteers a shinning light - The Illawarra Mercury
By Michelle Webster
Wollongong and Kiama's iconic lighthouses looked a little more orange than usual on Wednesday night it wasn't your eyes playing tricks.
Both structures were illuminated for Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW Day) in support of NSW State Emergency Service volunteers.
Illawarra South Coast region volunteers have been among NSW's busiest in the past year and region controller Ashley Sullivan said the day was an opportunity for the community to show its appreciation.
"WOW Day is a great way for the public to show their support of our selfless and committed volunteers who sacrifice their time away from families and work to help their communities in times of need," he said.
"Seeing people wearing orange and decorating their workplaces and communities shows how much support there is for our volunteers who are there purely to help out someone when times are tough."
