International Volunteer Day - NSW SES

by | December 4, 2014

Friday December 5th is International Volunteer Day. The day was established in 1985 by the United Nations as a means of recognising the contributions of volunteers to their community.

As a volunteer based organisation, with around 9,000 dedicated and committed volunteer members, the New South Wales State Emergency Service pays tribute to the work undertaken by our volunteers in assisting their communities to prepare for, and through, disasters.

NSW SES volunteers undertaken the widest range of roles of all emergency services including their primary roles of flood, storm and tsunami preparation and response as well as assisting other agencies in bushfires, in searches for lost and missing persons, in vertical rescue, road crash rescue, aerial searches and search and rescue in Australia’s Alps.

SES volunteers train hard during the year to the highest professional standards to ensure that when the community requires them, they are ready to assist the community.

To all of our 9,000 volunteers – thank you. We hope that you will join us in thanking them too.
