Light show will lead into storm - free New Years - My Daily News

TWEED could see a storm-free New Year's Eve, after what was mostly theatrics last night.

Local SES controller Brian Sheahan said no property was damaged in last night's storm.

"Most of the outcome was to do with trees being blown over power lines, threatening houses and blocking roads," Mr Sheahan said.

Mr Sheahan said the Murwillumbah SES crew responded to about 7 incidents, with several occurring on the coastal regions.

He said throughout the storm season, people should practice common sense and vigilance.

"If you've got decent sized trees, it's essential to maintain them," Mr Sheahan said.

He said everyone should clear their gutters on a regular basis, as they can't drain properly when blocked.

The storm did not contain much rain, with Tweed Heads/Coolangatta receiving only 0.4mm while Murwillumbah got a splash more at 6mm.

If you've made outdoor plans for New Year's Eve, it's a good idea to have a back-up.

While the Bureau of Meteorology hasn't predicted any storms for the remainder of the week, some showers are expected for the next few days.

Tomorrow is set to be cloudy with a chance of showers.

It's expected to get a bit clearer and warmer by Thursday, with a top of 29 degrees sticking around until the weekend.
