Local SES are national champs - Port Maquarie News
A CREW of Port Macquarie State Emergency Service volunteers has made history, after scoring the region's first victory at the prestigious National Disaster Rescue Competition in Victoria.
The win comes after the seven-person Port Macquarie Unit won the State Disaster Rescue Competition last month.
Unit Controller Kevin Sherwood, who was also the team's leader in the competition, congratulated the team of volunteers from the Port Macquarie SES Unit who represented NSW in the biennial championships.
"This victory for NSW confirms yet again the expertise and experience of our SES volunteers, particularly their high standards of training and equipment and their dedication to serving the community," he said.
NSW fought-off determined challengers from the six other state and territory rescue crews in the gruelling two-day competition.
The prestigious event was staged at the CFA Training College at Fiskville, Victoria at the weekend.
