AN SES volunteer who dedicates about 30 hours a week to the organisation has been voted this year's Manly State Emergency Service volunteer of the year by his peers.

Mr Tory, of Dee Why, works four days a week and spends nearly the equivalent of another four working days with the SES.

He and the other Manly SES members are also always on call.

When he is not out on jobs helping the community, Mr Tory organises the unit's training schedule and assessment paperwork.

He also goes out to other units to help them with their training.

"I'm the sort of person that, when I see that something needs to be done, I just do it," he said.

Mr Tory has been an SES volunteer for nine years and has seen himself and his fellow volunteers grow within themselves.
