NSW Govenor, The Honorable David Hurley visits affected communities in the Hunter Area - NSW SES
His Excellency General, the Honourable David Hurley, Governor of NSW, accompanied by Mrs Hurley, visited storm and flood affected communities in the Hunter Region earlier today to be briefed on the scale of the impacts and visit local communities of Maitland and Dungog.
Accompanied by the NSW SES Commissioner, Adam Dent, His Excellency and Mrs Hurley also visited the NSW SES Hunter Region Operations Centre and met with volunteers and staff of the NSW SES to discuss the operational response and to thank them for their ongoing support to the local community.
Local Incident Controller Amanda Williamson, briefed the group on the current situation in the region including completed jobs and plans going into the next few days.
“This operation across NSW over the past seven days has seen almost as many tasks for the NSW SES as was requested for the whole of last year’s storm season” Commissioner Dent said. “His Excellency, Mrs Hurley and I were taken by the devastation across areas in the Hunter region and it was important to visit these communities and show our support”, Mr. Dent added.
Commissioner Dent also expressed the admiration shared by himself, Governor Hurley and Mrs. Hurley for the dedication and commitment of the volunteers and support services who have been helping local communities impacted by this weather event.
