Orange army on a recruitment drive - The Armidale Express

URALLA’S State Emergency Service is calling for volunteers to sign up to the “army of orange” and help residents prepare for this summer’s thunderstorm season.

Community officer Barry Hancock said one benefit of joining was members would receive training for emergencies.

“The SES aims to protect lives and property from the damage caused by extreme weather events, such as heavy thunderstorms which are more common during the summer months,” Mr Hancock said.

He also encouraged residents to familiarise themselves with the SES’s “home flood safe” toolkit.

It contained information on protecting against thunderstorm damage, such as cleaning gutters and fixing roofs.

“I would also encourage people to go online and check up on current emergency preparedness procedures and practice,” he said.
