Orange honours SES - Penrith City Gazette

THINK about wearing orange when you catch a Busways service on November 12 — Wear Orange Wednesday.

The bus company is encouraging its drivers and the public to wear the colour in honour of the 40,000 SES volunteers across the nation.

SES mascot Paddy the Platypus — aka Skye Lever — will take the Paddy Bus Run on the day, making appearances at Busways' Mulgrave, Penrith and Blacktown depots to raise awareness for the national SES campaign.

"It's a fun and simple way to recognise the outstanding work conducted by our SES volunteers, who have provided much needed assistance to the communities throughout Australia," Mr Lever, 34, said.

He joined the Hawkesbury SES two years ago and is also a bus driver at Busways' Mulgrave depot, along with SES volunteer Ross Taylor who will drive the Paddy Bus. On board will be other SES volunteers.

Busways will use orange on its website and Twitter account and host barbecues at all 16 of its NSW depots on the day.

"Whether you're at work, school or home I encourage everyone to wear a bit of orange [on November 12] to show support for our incredible volunteers," Emergency Services Minister Stuart Ayres said.

"These are the people we turn to in times of need."
