Power outages across western Sydney - Hills News

by | November 5, 2014

Endeavour Energy emergency crews are responding to widespread damage to the electricity network caused by this afternoon's severe thunder storm.

A spokesperson said 17,000 customers in the region are currently without power due to the electrical storm that hit the region about 3pm, including about 7800 customers in Wentworthville, Toongabbie, Emu Plains, Richmond and Kenthurst.

Power has also been cut to more than 9000 customers in suburbs such as Minto, Eagle Vale,  Fairfield, Prestons and Moorebank.

Residents in the affected areas are reminded not to touch or go near fallen powerlines but to keep themselves and others well clear and call Endeavour Energy immediately on 13 10 03.

Last weekend there were more than 870 calls for assistance to the NSW SES Sydney western region in 48 hours, after a storm ripped through western Sydney on Saturday.

While the Bureau of Meteorology may have cancelled today's severe thunderstorm warning for the metro areas, the last of the storm cells is currently tracking over the northern part of The Hills area.

The NSW SES Sydney western region has received 47 job requests already since noon today.

The region takes in The Hills, Auburn, Blacktown, Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury, Holroyd, Mount Druitt, Parramatta, and Penrith.
