Thursday will be another day of sustained wild and windy weather around the state.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a  Severe Weather Warning (SWW) for damaging winds for people in the Hunter, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes & Plains, South West Slopes, Riverina, Upper Western, Lower Western, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts.http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/warnings/severe.shtml

The front will move from the South Coast and central inland early Thursday morning, extending through the Illawarra, Sydney Metropolitan and Hunter throughout the afternoon and early evening, bringing with it winds in the range of 55 to 85kmh with gusts from 100 - 125kmh in some areas.

While Sydney is not included in the current weather warning the area still can expect some windy conditions with windspeeds of 40-50kmh with gusts up to 80kmh are expected to impact during the afternoon and persist late into the evening.Damaging winds averaging 60 to 70 kmh with peak wind gusts exceeding 100kmh are forecast to develop over parts of the Snowy Mountains forecast district above 1500 metres later this evening.

With daylight savings in place it’s a great opportunity to prepare this evening before the damaging winds impact tomorrow.

These simple things can be done:

  • Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony
  • Prune overhanging trees
  • Move vehicles under cover or away from trees
  • Ensure your children and pets are safe
