READER's PHOTOS: Snap storm shakes the Illawarra - Illawarra Mercury
It was a flash in the pan but the severe electrical storm that whipped across the Illawarra sky on Saturday afternoon made for some spectacular viewing.
The storm didn’t amount to much, but lasted long enough for readers to snap photos of lightning strikes, hail and cloud formations.
The thunderstorm was of such short duration it didn’t have time to do much damage across the region.
The State Emergency Service was called to an incident at Blackbutt where a possible lightning strike damaged a roof.
A fire at Nepean Place, Albion Park, destroyed a hectare but was quickly extinguished.
A Rural Fire Service spokesperson said it was not known if lightning caused the blaze.
Most rain gauges missed out on any substantial recordings; the Illawarra Regional Airport gauge at Albion Park received the most (5.4millimetres).
The Bureau of Meteorology predicts sun on Monday and Tuesday and some showers on Wednesday.
