SES crews find new ways to help the community - The Courier

State Emergency Services volunteers decided to help the community in a different way to normal over the Christmas period.

While many people spent time with our families in the lead-up to the festive season, the volunteers were busy delivering Christmas hampers to disadvantaged and battling families. 

Volunteer Heather Turner said it was the second year the volunteers had taken part in the 3BA Christmas appeal. 

“It is part of our community engagement and involvement,” she said.

“They were looking for people to help deliver because they have such a large amount to deliver around the community.”

Ms Turner stressed the SES members took part in the appeal not for recognition, but to help people. 

She said they had delivered to a wide range of people from families to single people. 

“People are very grateful,” she said.

“It is not part of our emergency service but it is good to be part of the community and for people to see we are there to help, not just for emergencies.”
