SES says Central Coast residents shoudl be aware of Tsunami risk - Central Coast Gosford Express Adv
by By Terry Collins | July 29, 2014
The Central Coast will never have to worry about a tsunami, right?
Not necessarily.
The NSW State Emergency Service and Surf Life Saving NSW are reminding people who live or holiday near coastal areas to be aware of the tsunami risk.
Gosford SES deputy controller Warner Klumpp said there had been many reported tsunamis affecting the NSW coastline, including the Central Coast, with a wave originating from Chile causing minor boat damage in the area in 1960.
"While these events don't happen regularly or frequently, the impact of a tsunami hitting vulnerable, low-lying areas on the coast could be catastrophic," Mr Klumpp said.
