SES says clean-up clutter before the wind gets it - Hills Shire Times

by Bev Jordan | September 28, 2013

A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for the Metropolitan area with warm to hot winds coming through today.

A Total Fire Ban has also been issued for the Metropolitan area starting from midnight.

If you see any unattended fires call Triple Zero (000)

If you need emergency help during storms or floods call 132 500.

Winds were recorded at 75km/h through Baulkham Hills on Thursday.

The gusts toppled a branch from giant gum tree in Cross St, crushing a car and bringing down power lines. The power was out for 2000 homes and the road closed between Old Northern rd and Henry St as Endeavour Energy crews made the power safe and emergency services worked to clear the road.

Hills State Emergency Service volunteers responded to 17 calls with trees damaging houses crashing across roads and footpaths.

SES crews cleared up the debris from a tree which crashed across the car park at Knightsbridge Shops. Jobs also included a tree over a house in Cedarwood Place, Carlingford.

Sparks from powerlines brought down by trees on Old Northern Rd at South Maroota sparked a grass fire.

Hills SES controller Evelyn Lester said people needed to have a look around their yard and secure anything that could be picked up by the wind and cause damage.
