Snow falls in Blackheath in springtime as Sydney's wild weather continues - Penrith Press

SCHOOLS are shut, stations are inaccessible but lovers of winter sports have been in their element in the Blue Mountains this morning, with unseasonable snow falling across the region.

While much of Sydney struggled to cope with flooding caused by heavy rainfall, residents of Blackheath, just over 100km from the CBD, woke up to snow covered streets.

The wintry conditions come just ten days after Sydney recorded temperatures of 33.8C.

Penrith Press photographer Matt Sullivan lives in the suburb and said it was a very different place this morning.

“Most people are staying off work and most of the schools are shut,” he said. “People can’t get out of Blackheath, there are branches down everywhere because of the weight of the snow.

“There’s lots of kids throwing snowballs and toboganning and having fun, particularly at Memorial Park, which is always a favourite spot.”
