Strathfield SES Volunteers come to the rescue of Sydney communities - ourStrathfield.com.au
Our Strathfield SES volunteers came to the aid of Hornsby residents after storms ravaged Sydney earlier this week.
Heavy rain and winds caused a roof collapse at the Westfield Shopping Centre.
The Strathfield SES also joined teams from across the Greater Sydney area, including Hornsby, The Hills, Ashfield-Leichhardt and Ryde.
Local Controller Darrin Parkin said the team were called out urgently to help.
"At 6:25pm on Monday, Strathfield SES were called to assist emergncy services in Hornsby following a partial roof collapse at the Westfield Shopping Centre," he said.
"When the Strathfield team arrived on site they began debris removal operations to make the area safe before assisting other NSW SES teams with temporary repairs on the roof of the Westfield Shopping Centre."
The Strathfield SES are encouraging residents and businesses to develop a storm plan.
Storm season falls between October and March every year and is the time when storms occur more frequently.
