A teenager has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man in Kingston last week.

Brodie Leigh Price, 19, has been remanded in custody to reappear on Thursday.

He is charged with the shooting murder of Jason William McPherson, 41, whose body was found in the backyard of his brother's home in Pine Avenue shortly before midnight on Friday.

Price has yet to enter a plea.

Police sent extra officers to the court for Price's appearance.

As Price was led away, the dead man's brothers yelled after him "you're dead."

They were escorted from the court by police.

Mr McPherson was staying at his brother Justin "Tiny" McPherson's house, but Detective Inspector Craig Joel will not comment on possible motives.

"At this stage obviously it's a matter now for the court and it's a very serious charges and our major crime team will conduct investigations over coming days and weeks so those matters will be played out in the court," he said.

Meanwhile, SES personnel and police have found what is believed to be the alleged murder weapon.

Detective Inspector Joel say it was uncovered during line searches in the Kingston area.

"At this stage the firearm's being analysed by our ballistics staff and forensics personnel, so at this stage it's too early to even give a description or even a location or whether it was registered so those enquiries will continue, obviously today and into the coming week," he said.

A major crime team has been set up at Kingston to handle the ongoing investigation.

Police have not ruled out further arrests and are appealing for more information from the public.
