Vehicle upgrade - Cootamundra Herald
THE Cootamundra State Emergency Service (SES) has a brand new vehicle which will make their work easier.
Since changing from being local government run to being state government run new fleet vehicles have been ordered for all SES branches.
The old vehicle used by the Cootamundra branch was around five years old and had done plenty of work, often on rough country, and thousands of kilometres.
The age of the car meant it lacked power so local volunteers could not be happier with their new four wheel drive.
Having had the car for about a month they have already travelled in it to four jobs, including a callout to assist at the fires in Tumut last month.
“We couldn’t be happier,” Cootamundra SES controller Lorraine Hately said.
With a core group of eight volunteers, more members are needed. The SES is often one of the first ports of call in times of emergency. Volunteers are trained in a variety of different areas.
Anyone interested in volunteering should attend Monday night training from 7pm at the SES’s Fuller Drive headquarters in town (near the Business Park).
