Violent storm rips roofs from Sydney homes, hail hits northern NSW - Weatherzone
by | July 29, 2014
Emergency crews are working to clear a backlog of calls for help from people whose properties were damaged by gale force winds that lashed Sydney and the NSW central coast.
Tuesday's strong gusts brought down trees and power lines and ripped roofs off homes and businesses in several areas.
At the height of the storm, the State Emergency Service (SES) received around 700 calls for help, with Sydney's southern suburbs the hardest hit.
A spokeswoman says there will only be a few crews working throughout the night, with the majority back on board on Wednesday morning to clear the bulk of the backlog.
