Wear Orange Wednesday to show support for SES - Bega District News

THE community is being encouraged to get involved with the NSW State Emergency Service’s (SES) Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW Day).

WOW Day is a national day of recognition of the 40,000 SES volunteers across Australia, with the public encouraged to show their appreciation in a highly visible way, by wearing orange - the official colour of the SES uniform. 

“This is a great opportunity to show our support for our hard working SES volunteers,” Member for Bega Andrew Constance said.

“These volunteers work around the clock in incredibly difficult conditions, ensuring the welfare of communities across the state when disaster hits.

“The NSW SES alone has around 10,000 men and women who volunteer, coming from all walks of life and ranging in age from 16 to 80.

“Last year NSW SES volunteers dedicated a massive 260,000 hours to respond to flood and storm tasks as well as assisting other emergency services with rescues and searches.

“The dedication of these people to their work is outstanding, and this is our chance to show our appreciation for their selfless work.

“Pull on some orange clothing on WOW day and let’s get behind our volunteers,” Mr Constance added.
